What is Shred Skate Kamp?
Shred Basic Kamp is a safe, fun, supportive and friendly environment where children aged 8-14 learn the fundamentals and experience the thrill of moving on wheels.
How does skate instruction work?
Basic Kamp is always conducted on a flat, indoor surface, typically a roller rink or gymnasium floor. Other than skate gear (discussed below) there is very little equipment involved in instruction. Pylons re set up for drills, but the Kore of the Kamp is instruction by Skate Coaches. Instruction is by mentorship and modeling positive skills and behaviors. Instruction and class are all in group settings.
Gentle, but firm and supportive leadership is modeled to encourage learning, sharing, camaraderie, interaction, and community among all Kampers.
A block of time balanced between Skate Instruction and other fun, educational activities like volleyball, board games, ping pong and tetherball.
We focus on the development of balance and confidence of each skater as they transition to the world of more liquid movement. This is achieved through a combination of instruction, drills games and team events.
The Safety of every person in the Kamp environment is our #1 priority.
These are not just empty words. The founder of Shred served for 34 years in the front lines helping to protect workers in some the most dangerous and challenging places on Earth. From the middle if the Bering Sea during January crab fishing to the burning deserts of the valleys of western North America, Andrew Scully worked to safeguard employees – literally on the firing line with them. He developed improved safety and production techniques. (1st as safety engineer, then as a chemical safety analyst, emergency response trainer and industrial hygienist) Andrew served to protect people.
He brought the same focus to Shred.
